Malaysian press reports indicate that there was a recent meeting between US Secretary of State Tillerson and Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah “to discuss matters of mutual interest”
It is understandable that Mr. Tillerson, a man with no previous diplomatic experience, might agree to meet the Foreign Minister of another country. Much less understandable is how his subordinates did not (presumably) brief him on the DOJ statement on 1MDB and the involvement of the Malaysian PM in those mega thefts. Had he known would Mr. Tillerson have met Anifah? A statement would help to clear the air.
No word has been made public about these “discussions”. That should be remedied as the Malaysian public wants to know why the left and right hands in Washington seem not to be in contact with each other.
Staff could also brief you on the new Kuala Lumpur/Beijing relationship in which the latter have bought the former with a bribe to ty to cover the Malaysian PM’s theft of billions of dollars from 1MDB. In exchange they get a puppet State and control of the Malacca Straits. The Department of Defence know about that even if State still needs to catch up.
It is doubtful if Anifah will say anything more about his meeting with Mr. Tillerson but the latter may like to enlighten the Malaysian public as to why he met Anifah at all.
